Course Overview

This short course, studied fortnightly over four months, will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to manage books effectively – including double entry bookkeeping, and associated documents and processes, up to Trial Balance standard. Topics may include: ? Introduction to Bookkeeping ? Principles of Bookkeeping Study methods include: ? Online – study online through, on-demand video lessons that you can watch anytime on any device. Each 45-minute lesson uses animations and graphics to explain key concepts, with practice questions and downloadable materials to support your learning. Expect to spend 4-5 hours a week studying independently. ? In Person – you’ll have regular classes with a college tutor – without needing to attend multiple evenings each week. Your tutor will check your understanding, support your progress, and guide you through your assessment. Group discussions will reinforce key learning and provide the motivation of studying as part of a supportive group. ? Virtual Classroom – these sessions are a key part of the course, giving you regular contact with a college tutor. These sessions reinforce what you’ve learnt online, provide guidance on your progress and assessments, and offer valuable discussion with classmates for added support and motivation.

Assessment Methods

This course is assessed through a total of two computer-based exams, one taken at the end of each unit.

Progression Options

On completion, you’ll achieve the AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping – an internationally recognised qualification that provides essential skills for starting or progressing a career in accounting. This certificate can fast-track you to the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting, and your achievements will also count toward the full AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting if you choose to continue your studies. This qualification can prepare you for roles such as a Clerical Assistant, Trainee Bookkeeper, Accounts Clerk, Finance Assistant, or Accounts Administrator.

Entry Requirements

An interview is required for this course. Previous knowledge of accounting or a Level 1 Bookkeeping qualification would be advantageous but not essential.
