Sustainability

Sustainability is a shared responsibility. That’s why we’re working hard to reduce our environmental impact and embed sustainable thinking into the way we learn and work.

Our commitments

We are actively working towards more environmentally responsible practices across all areas of college life, from how we build and manage our campuses to how we teach. We believe that every student and staff member has a role to paly in this journey, and we’re here to lead by example.

Our Climate Action Committee has identified six key areas for action:

  1. Education and awareness
  2. Energy management
  3. Transport
  4. Waste and recycling
  5. Protection of natural habitats
  6. Accreditation and recognition.

Education and awareness

We embed sustainability into our daily routines:

  • Tutorials encourage students to share ideas and innovate around sustainability
  • Staff receive regular updates and training on how to adopt eco-friendly work practices
  • We encourage visitors, suppliers, and partners to adopt greener approaches when working with us.

Energy management

We’re committed to improving energy efficiency across all our campuses.

  • All new buildings are designed with sustainability in mind
  • We’re upgrading older buildings to meet modern energy standards
  • Energy use is carefully monitored and managed using smart systems
  • We review our energy suppliers regularly and consider low-carbon options where viable.

Transport

With staff and students frequently travelling, transport plays a big role in our sustainability efforts.

Here’s how we’re making a difference:

  • Converting our college vehicle fleet to electric wherever possible
  • Considering carbon emissions as part of our procurement process
  • Reviewing the environmental performance of our transport providers.

Waste and recycling

We’re reducing waste and promoting smarter recycling choices across all campuses.

  • We’ve introduced compostable VegWare in our food outlets
  • Recycling stations are available in all buildings for everyday waste
  • Collecting a range of items for charitable recycling.

Accreditation and future goals

We are committed to continually improving. We are therefore:

  • Exploring formal accreditation options such as the Carbon Trust Standard
  • Aiming to align with national frameworks like the Sustainable Development Goals Accord
  • Enhancing the College’s reputation for sustainability and accelerating progress towards net zero.
