Strode College celebrates the class of 2025 at Wells Cathedral

More than 300 guests gathered at the magnificent Wells Cathedral on Saturday 18 October to celebrate the achievements of graduates from Strode College’s Higher Education programmes. 

The annual graduation ceremony brought together students, families, staff, and distinguished guests to honour the hard work and dedication of those completing qualifications across a wide range of academic and professional subjects. 

The ceremony welcomed special guests including Deputy Lieutenant of Somerset, Robert Drewett, and Chair of Governors, Tim Rideout, who both addressed the audience. Other guests included, The High Sheriff of Somerset, Mrs Janet Montgomery, the Mayor of Wells, Mr Louis Agabani, Cllr Bryan Knickerbocker, Chairman of Street Parish Council, the Mayor Glastonbury, Michael White and Sarah Dyke MP. 

The congregation celebrated graduates from programmes including, Accounting, Counselling, Psychology and History, Heritage and Archaeology to name a few.  

Speaking at the ceremony, Principal Sam Reilly congratulated the graduates on their hard work and determination, saying: 

Graduation is the highlight of our Higher Education calendar. It’s an opportunity to celebrate not only their academic success but the personal journeys that have brought them to this moment. Each graduate represents the very best of Strode College and the bright future of our community We are immensely proud of them all.

Special awards were also presented during the ceremony, recognising exceptional achievement and contribution: 

  • The University of Plymouth Academic Partnership Prize was awarded to Margaret Turner, a Psychology student who returned to education after retirement and impressed staff with her enthusiasm, resilience, and support for her peers. 
  • The James Arlett History Prize, commemorating a much-loved former Strode College student and lecturer, was jointly awarded to Julia Rostrup and Jason McArthur for their outstanding academic performance and dissertations in History. 

Student representative, Jason McArthur, delivered the Vote of Thanks on behalf of the graduates, expressing appreciation to tutors, families, and college staff for their encouragement and support throughout their studies. 

Following the formal proceedings, the graduates processed out of Wells Cathedral to applause from staff and guests, before gathering on Cathedral Green for the official Class of 2025 group photograph. The celebrations concluded with a reception back inside the Cathedral.
