Additional Learning Support

At Taunton College, we understand that every learner is different, and so is the support they need to succeed. That’s why our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team provides flexible, personalised support tailored to each individual.

Tailored support to help you thrive

Our Additional Learning Support (ALS) service has been recognised for its outstanding provision, and is a leading example within the sector, offering specialist support that goes above and beyond. This includes services not commonly found in further education, such as our dedicated Autism Facilitators and Transitions Officers.

No matter your learning needs, we’re here to support you at every stage of your college journey.

Our Support Services

Academic Coaches

Providing one-to-one and small group sessions, our Academic Coaches support you both in class and in our dedicated Academic Workshops, helping you develop independent study skills, manage coursework, and stay on track.

Autism Facilitators

Our unique cross-college Autism Facilitator team offers expert, tailored support for students who are diagnosed, or exploring a diagnosis, of autism. This service helps to build confidence, support communication and social interaction.

Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs)

Our ELSAs offer personalised emotional support for students navigating the challenges of college life. Their work focuses on wellbeing and helping students develop strategies to manage emotional and social difficulties.

EHCP Coordination

We offer a welcoming, inclusive environment for EHCP annual reviews. Our team works closely with students, families, and external agencies to ensure that each young person’s plan is fully supported and regularly reviewed.

Learning Support Assistants (LSAs)

Our LSAs support both cross-college and Foundation Learning students, working within the classroom to provide academic and emotional guidance, promote independence, and help students achieve their personal goals.

…and more!

If you have any questions about our support services, how to access them, or just general queries around what we offer, please do not hesitate to contact our Student Support Team by emailing studentsupport@ucscollegegroup.ac.uk.

“I have found the Student Support team very helpful as well as catch-up workshops that some subjects offer. The atmosphere is more relaxed than at school, which makes me feel a lot more conformable studying here.”
