Course Overview

The accounts or finance assistant apprenticeship provides learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to support financial operations within a wide range of organisations. the programme focuses on developing accuracy, professionalism and a clear understanding of financial processes, enabling apprentices to contribute confidently to day-to-day accounting tasks. learners gain insight into how financial information is recorded, processed and reported, and how their role supports wider business functions.

Throughout the apprenticeship, learners build competence in managing financial data, using accounting software, and following industry-standard procedures. they also develop strong communication, problem-solving and organisational skills, allowing them to work effectively with colleagues, clients and external stakeholders. in addition, the programme encourages reflective practice, ethical awareness and personal responsibility, which are essential foundations for working within finance environments.

By the end of the programme, apprentices will be equipped with the technical skills, behaviours and understanding needed to support accurate and compliant financial processes. this apprenticeship provides a solid platform for progression into more advanced accounting roles and further professional study.

Assessment Methods

The accounts or finance assistant apprenticeship is assessed through a combination of on-programme learning and end-point assessment. Throughout the programme, apprentices build a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates their competence in practical accounting tasks, professional behaviours and use of financial systems. This may include workplace observations, reflective accounts, completed tasks, and feedback from employers.

Apprentices will also complete functional skills in maths and english if required. At the end of the apprenticeship, learners undertake an end-point assessment.

Progression Options

On completion of the accounts or finance assistant apprenticeship, learners can progress into roles such as accounts assistant, finance administrator, purchase ledger clerk or payroll assistant.

Many learners choose to continue their professional development by moving on to the assistant accountant level 3 apprenticeship or by undertaking further studies with professional bodies such as AAT.

Entry Requirements

To join the accounts or finance assistant apprenticeship, it is desirable for applicants to hold GCSEs in maths and english at grades 9 to 3, or an appropriate level 1 qualification.

Applicants should demonstrate good numeracy skills, attention to detail and a positive attitude toward learning. Employers may request additional skills such as basic IT competence or some relevant experience.
