This course will be ideal for you if you wish to develop a career in Barbering and male grooming. During this one-year course you will cover the theory and skills related to all aspects of the barbering industry.

You will study in a commercial barbershop environment with opportunities to work with paying clients while supported and supervised. You will have the opportunity to visit national trade exhibitions and trips. The annual Industry Day offers the opportunity to watch industry experts demonstrating new skills and techniques.

Work experience will be an essential part of the course. You will be encouraged to take part in local and national competitions and you will have the opportunity to show off your skills during the annual End of Year Showcase.

Topics may include:

  • Health and safety
  • Shampooing and conditioning
  • Cutting men’s hair and cutting facial hair
  • Drying and styling
  • Providing consultation services
  • Creating lines and patterns.

Assesment Methods

Your skills development will be assessed throughout the course, including practical assessments and online exams.

Progression Options

On successful completion of this course, you could progress to the Level 3, which would allow you to further develop your confidence, gain more experience, and work towards advanced skills and techniques, perfect your craft, and learn new skills, such as traditional wet shaving.

Alternatively, you could seek work in the industry and continue to learn and perfect your skills as a junior barber, or start an apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSEs in the 9 to 3 range, and to have completed a Level 1 in Barbering or Hairdressing.

Entry is subject to a successful interview.

You will be required to purchase a barbering kit including uniform, approximately £450.
