This T-Level combines classroom learning with industry placement. It equips students with practical and theoretical skills in IT support, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

Students learn how to maintain digital systems, support users, and protect data and systems from cyber threats.

Students also complete an industry placement (around 45 days) with an employer to gain real-world experience.

Topics may include:

  • Fundamentals of digital infrastructure, e.g. hardware, software, and networks
  • IT support and troubleshooting techniques
  • Cybersecurity principles and threat prevention
  • Data protection and compliance, e.g. GDPR
  • Cloud computing and virtualisation
  • Operating systems and system management
  • Scripting and automation, e.g. PowerShell and Python basics.

Assesment Methods

This course is assessed by a range of assignments and assessments. These are set and marked internally by BTC staff and then validated by an external moderator.

You will also be expected to complete work experience in a relevant industry placement.

Progression Options

This qualification is equivalent to three A Levels and successful completion will enable progression on to HNC in Digital and Computing or university, apprenticeships including Higher Apprenticeships, and a wide range of possible careers in industry.

University Centre Somerset offers a Foundation Degree in Computing and Digital Technologies leading on to a BEng Degree awarded by the University of the West of England.

Former students have become Cyber and Forensic Analysts and have moved into employment with a range of companies across all sectors.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 4 range, including English at grade 4 and maths at 5 or above, or an appropriate Level 2 qualification with an overall Merit that includes maths.
