This course is an exciting introduction to hairdressing where you will experience a wide range of subjects, including cutting, colouring, styling, and perming. This course will be ideal for you if you wish to develop a career in hairdressing, regardless of if you wish to work in a salon, develop a career as a session artist, or if you wish to continue and go onto university studying media hair and make-up.

This is a two-year practical, work-related course. You learn by completing practical assessments and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

  • Cutting
  • Colouring
  • Styling
  • Setting
  • Perming
  • Client consultation
  • Health and safety.

Assesment Methods

You will study a combination of practical and theory subjects, with most of your time spent in our specialist hair salons.

Your progress is assessed through a range of assignments and assessments. These are set externally by the awarding body and marked internally by your tutors, these are then validated by an external moderator.

You will also be expected to complete work experience in a relevant industry placement.

Progression Options

On successful completion of this course, you could go into the workplace as a junior stylist in a salon, or could progress to complete a Level 3 in Hairdressing or relevant apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the 9-3 range, including maths, or a relevant Level 1 qualification.

Entry is subject to a successful interview.
