This course is ideal if you are considering a career in either the hairdressing or barbering industries. You will study in our professional salons and assist with a range of hairdressing or barbering services.

Tutorial support, maths and English development, and personal and social development will be fundamental aspects of the course. You will also have opportunities for trips, industry days, and our end of year showcase.

Topics may include:

  • Introduction to the hairdressing and barbering sector
  • Presenting a professional image
  • Health and safety
  • Shampooing and conditioning hair
  • Styling, plaiting, and twisting hair
  • Cutting men’s hair
  • Cutting facial hair
  • Client consultation.

Assesment Methods

Assessments will be in the form of practical observations whilst working with clients in our salons and online test for each of the units.

Progression Options

Successful completion of Level 1 will enable you to progress to Level 2 or into employment with an apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

You will need 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English Language or maths.

You will be required to purchase a barbering kit including uniform that cost approximately £400 or hairdressing kit with uniform approximately £300.
