Course Overview

This is a vocational qualification designed for individuals working, or seeking to work, in various hospitality roles. It provides the knowledge and skills necessary to perform effectively in roles such as front-of-house staff, cooks, and other support positions. The diploma can be a stepping stone to further education, apprenticeships, or employment within the hospitality sector.

This is a one-year theory and practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities, and demands to build a portfolio of evidence. The course also includes one weeks work experience.

Topics may include:

  • The Hospitality industry
  • Working alone and teamwork
  • Food and beverage service and production
  • Business principles
  • Customer service.

Assessment Methods

You will study a combination of practical and theory subjects, with time spent in practical settings. Your progress is assessed through a range of assignments and assessments which will build up a portfolio of evidence to mees assessment criteria. These are set and marked internally by College staff and then validated by an external moderator.

You will also be expected to complete work experience in a relevant industry placement.

Progression Options

On successful completion of this course, you could start an exciting career as an apprentice with one of the many employers we work with.

Alternatively, you could continue to study on one of our Level 3 programmes.

Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language and Maths, or equivalent such as NVQ Level 1.
