Course Overview

This practical course is designed for students looking to develop skills in music performance and production, with a focus on progressing into the music and performing arts industry. You’ll explore a wide range of genres, from rock and jazz to musical theatre and reggae, while building a foundation in music creation, performance, and technology.

The course prepares you for Level 3 study at Strode and a future in the music or performing arts industries.

You will study and perform across different genres, create a career plan and artist bio, take part in live and online shows, use software to create music from scratch, build a safe and professional online presence, and produce your own performance, recording, or composition as part of your Final Major Project.

Assessment Methods

You will study a combination of practical and theory subjects, with half of your time spent in our specialist Music rehearsal rooms, and the rest working in a music-specialist mac suite.

Your progress is assessed through a range of assignments and assessments including use of online platforms and practical assessments. These are set and marked internally by College staff and then validated by an external moderator.

Progression Options

Most students progress to Level 3 courses in Music or Performing Arts, where they can build on the skills developed at Level 2. The course also opens up early industry opportunities, such as working in live events, studio support, or starting out as an independent artist.

With a strong focus on practical skills and self-promotion, it’s a great step towards a creative career.
