Course Overview

You will experience a wide range of subjects, including facial, make-up, waxing, eye treatments, manicure and pedicures. This course will be ideal for you if you have a passion for beauty therapy.

This is a one-year practical, work-related course. You will carry out practical assessments on clients and sit unit exams that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities, anatomy and physiology.

Work experience is a course requirement, and you will work with paying clients in our commercial Beauty Salon, in a supported and supervised environment.

You will have the opportunity to show off your skills during the annual End of Year Showcase, and various industry-related trips are arranged throughout the year.

  • Facial skin care
  • Promote and sell products and services
  • Waxing techniques
  • Manicure and pedicure treatments
  • Application of make-up
  • Eyelash and eyebrow treatments
  • Salon reception duties.

Assessment Methods

You will study a combination of practical and theory subjects, with most of your time spent in our specialist beauty salons. Your progress is assessed through a range of exams and assessments. These are set externally by the awarding body and marked internally by your tutors, and then validated by an external moderator.

You will be expected to complete work experience in a relevant industry placement.

Progression Options

You could progress to the Level 3 course in Beauty Therapy and then progress into working in management, salons, cruise liners, health spas, airlines or self-employment, or you could study at university, including Salon Business Management.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs grade 9 to 3, including English and maths. Entry is also subject to a successful interview and induction.

You will need to demonstrate passion and interest in the beauty sector, as well as a positive and professional attitude to learning.

You will require a beauty kit, costing approximately £200.
