Course Overview
This is a specialist professional qualification. No previous experience is necessary. The course is designed to develop your skills, understanding and knowledge to perform professional treatments on clients.
Additional topics focus on the skills required to work with clients and colleagues such as reception duties and complying with health and safety.
Topics may include:
- Working in the beauty-related industries
- Follow health and safety practice in the salon
- Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
- Provide facial skin care
- Promote products and services to clients in a salon
- Remove hair using waxing techniques
- Provide manicure treatments
- Provide pedicure treatments
- Apply make-up
- Create an Image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
- Salon reception duties.
Assessment Methods
You will be assessed by graded assessments and online exams for each unit. Home study and full attendance is required to ensure success on this course. A professional kit and uniform is required for all practical salon work, the cost of this is included in the course fee.

The Student Experience Team works closely with the Safeguarding & Lifestyle Teams to promote proactive wellbeing enrichment sessions. The team can refer on to counselling when appropriate.

All of our students will have a personal tutor to support them with their academic progress and personal development. The tutorial programme consists of 1:1 support, group tutorials and guest speakers, plus targeted online resources which complement the UCS College Group Advantage scheme.
