Course Overview
The Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship develops the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively in accounting and finance roles. Apprentices learn how to prepare financial reports, manage budgets, analyse financial information, support business decision-making, and ensure compliance with financial regulations and professional standards.
Through a combination of workplace learning and structured training, learners gain practical experience in financial accounting, management accounting, taxation, and accounting systems. They also develop professional skills such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and ethical decision-making.
Typical job roles include Assistant Accountant, Finance Officer, Audit Assistant, Tax Assistant, and Accounts Supervisor.
Successful completion of the programme provides a recognised professional qualification and supports progression into senior accounting positions, management roles, or further professional study towards chartered accountant status.

Assessment Methods
Assessment is carried out through workplace-based learning, knowledge assessments, and the collection of evidence demonstrating competence in an accounting or finance role. Apprentices complete a portfolio of evidence and take part in regular progress reviews throughout the programme.
The apprenticeship concludes with an End-Point Assessment (EPA), which typically includes a synoptic end-test, a portfolio and reflective statement, and a professional discussion. These assessment methods enable apprentices to demonstrate their technical accounting knowledge, professional skills, and ability to apply accounting principles effectively in the workplace, ensuring they meet the requirements of the Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
Progression Options
Continued professional study with recognised accounting bodies, such as ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, or CIPFA, leading towards chartered status.
